I'm tired of people comparing Coldplay to Radiohead and U2. They are different, ok? They are also not as good as either of those bands.

X&Y is their third effort, and they've evolved, in that they sound more like themselves than ever before. Trust me, that makes sense. The album is remarkably consistent while somehow maintaining enough difference between the songs.

For me, the last two Coldplay albums have gone like this: Hear the single, like the single, listen to the whole album, like the whole album, listen to the whole album a few more times, decide most of the songs aren't that interesting to me, figure out which songs are going to be the other singles, only listen to those songs.

This again was pretty much the same story with X&Y. I heard 'Speed of Sound' on the radio and really enjoyed it. After a few listens, most of the rest of the album has sort of passed me by. I was 100% sure that 'Fix You' would be a single, and I think that I'm right about that. Other candidates are 'Square One' and 'A Message', in my opinion. I'm pretty sure 'Square One' will be.

It's a typical Coldplay album. If you like them, you'll like X&Y. If you don't, you won't. Their distinctive sound is all over this album. For me, it gets a bit too much after a while, as their first two albums did, but I still liked it.

The verdict: 7.5/10
