I don't think there is a whole lot one can say about a band like Taproot. Historically, I find their albums to be wildly inconsistent. I tend to like their singles but get lost in the drudgery of a full disc. Let's be honest though - Taproot is just another nu-metal band, and this genre is so overdone at this point that... well, who really cares?
Blue-Sky Research changes all that. In a move I hyped to Geoff, they brought on Billy Corgan to help out with this album. I love the Pumpkins and all, but I'm pretty sure Billy Corgan is a giant ass, so the more I thought about this the less I thought it would work out. They all proved me wrong however - this album has excellent melodies, well-executed vocal harmonies (a constant strength for Taproot, to be fair), and the songs are TIGHT, not long-winded and boring. The coolest vocal harmonies have to be during the chrous of track 9, "So Eager". I was kind of shocked by the creativity shown in this particular song, to be honest. You should check this track out, if nothing else.
Since I feel obligated to, let me point out a few other highlights: "Lost in the Woods" (track 8), "Calling" (track 5), "Violent Seas" (track 2) are all excellent, especially "Calling", which changes pace excellently. Anyways, I do like every song on this album, and I think Taproot really found a solid set of melodies to focus 13 songs on. With Blue-Sky Research Taproot, at least for a moment, finally used their various strengths properly and seperated themselves from the rest of their nu-metal brethren.
